Description

Is your team confident and compliant when operating wheeled, tracked, or roller machinery? Our comprehensive Wheels, Tracks & Rollers training provides operators with the essential skills, knowledge, and certification to work safely and effectively across a range of high-risk work environments.

This course combines theory and practical application to ensure operators understand safe operating practices, legal requirements, and hazard management when working with different types of plant and equipment.

  • Construction and civil works personnel

  • Plant and equipment supervisors
  • Health, safety, and compliance personnel

Participants will learn to:

Wheels (US 16701):

  • Understand licensing and legal requirements for road driving (endorsement W)
  • Operate wheeled machinery safely on and off road
  • Identify and manage workplace hazards

Rollers (US 16702):

  • Operate rollers safely and effectively in a controlled manner
  • Understand compaction principles and surface preparation
  • Apply safe operating practices and maintain compliance

Tracks (US 16703):

  • Safely operate and manoeuvre tracked vehicles (endorsement T)
  • Complete pre-start checks and follow safe operating procedures
  • Comply with road and site safety requirements

This course covers NZQA Unit Standards:

16701: Demonstrate knowledge and skill for driving on road for endorsement W (wheels)
16702: Demonstrate knowledge and skill for driving on road for endorsement R (rollers)
16703: Demonstrate knowledge and skill for driving on road for endorsement T (tracks)

This course is limited to Onsite Group Booking Only.  Machinery must be supplied.

Entry Criteria

Learner Detail Confirmation: 

All learners are required to have their identity verified prior to attending training.

If a learner is new to Industry Training Works, or their details cannot be confirmed within our database, we may request a copy of valid identification to complete enrolment.

Course Criteria:

A current full driver's licence is required for all endorsements (this excludes a Motorcycle Licence).

Participants must meet minimum English language requirements (e.g. NCEA Level 1 or equivalent / IELTS 5.5) If this requirement is not met, a reader/writer must be provided (not another course participant).

Literacy & Numeracy Support

We have processes in place to support all participants throughout their training, helping them achieve certification where applicable.

There is also a free online learning platform, Pathways Awarua, which helps build reading, writing, and maths skills, along with practical work and life skills. This includes support for learning to drive (Road Code), heavy vehicle and forklift licences, health and safety, and understanding personal finance (My Money).
