A Huge Milestone Worth Celebrating! ⭐️⭐️
Industry Training Works is incredibly proud to celebrate a special moment from EMS’ first Honours Night, held on 22 November at the Tokoroa Cosmopolitan Club.
One of the highlights of the evening was seeing our director, Bob, alongside his wife Lyn, receive a double gold star in recognition of an amazing 50 years of service. This award reflects Bob’s lifelong dedication to service, leadership, and community. Values that continue to guide both EMS and ITW every day.
We were also proud to see several EMS team members recognised for their continued professional development, including CIMS training achievements, which play a key role in building strong, capable emergency response teams.
A massive congratulations to Bob and Lyn from all of us here at ITW. 🎉
And well done to the EMS team for putting together a fantastic first Honours Night, along with everyone working behind the scenes to make it such a successful event.
Here’s to many more moments of recognition and achievement!

🧰 Equipment & PPE Corner
When Should You Replace Your Harness or Helmet?
Keeping your team safe at height isn’t just about having the right gear — it’s about making sure that gear is still performing as it should. Over time, even the highest-quality harnesses and helmets lose their protective strength through everyday wear, UV exposure, contaminants, or simply age.
Here’s how to know when it’s time to replace your equipment:
🔍 Harness Replacement Checklist
Replace your harness immediately if you notice:
- Fraying, cuts, or pulled stitching
- UV fading or brittle webbing
- Damaged or distorted D-rings or buckles
- Chemical contamination (fuel, acids, solvents)
- Missing labels or unreadable inspection tags
- A fall event — any harness involved in a fall must be retired
General lifespan guide:
When used in accordance with AS/NZS1891 design standards, harnesses are generally serviceable for up to 10 years. However, if any of the issues mentioned above are observed, the harness must be removed from service before reaching 10 years
🪖 Helmet Replacement Checklist
Replace your safety helmet if:
- It has been dropped from height
- The shell shows cracks, dents, or soft spots
- The internal cradle or padding is worn, loose, or missing
- It has been exposed to high heat, UV degradation, or chemicals
- Straps or buckles are damaged
- The expiry date has passed
General lifespan guide:
Most helmets should be replaced at regular intervals following manufacturer recommendations.

🌲 First Aid for Forestry – Keeping Teams Safe in the Field
Working in forestry presents unique challenges, with remote locations, heavy machinery, and physically demanding tasks. That’s why specialised First Aid training for forestry workers is essential — it equips teams with the knowledge and confidence to respond effectively in emergencies.
Our Forestry First Aid course covers scenarios that standard first aid training may not address, including:
-
Injuries from chainsaws and other machinery
-
Crush injuries and fractures
-
Remote incident management and evacuation procedures
-
Environmental hazards, such as exposure to extreme weather
By upskilling key staff in these critical areas, workplaces can reduce response times, improve outcomes in emergencies, and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
Training can be conducted onsite and flexible start times to suit your workers, making it convenient for teams to learn in the environment where they actually work. It’s a practical, hands-on approach that prepares employees to act confidently when every second counts.
Or take the opportunity to jump on our first publicly scheduled course on Friday 14th November 2025 by clicking here
Investing in specialised First Aid training isn’t just about compliance — it’s about protecting lives, supporting team wellbeing, and fostering a culture of safety across your forestry operation.

Mental Health Awareness Week 2025: Top Up Together
This year, Mental Health Awareness Week aligns with the nationwide wellbeing campaign Top Up. The theme, Top Up Together, encourages us to connect with others while bringing the Five Ways to Wellbeing into our daily lives.
Research shows that a shared, community-based approach to wellbeing delivers the most lasting benefits. Social connection — through volunteering, shared learning, physical activity, cultural practices, and community events — brings purpose, belonging, and improved mental wellbeing.
At Industry Training Works, we want to play our part in encouraging connection and wellbeing. As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re offering free DASS (Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale) testing with all Occupational Health Checks booked before 31st October 2025.
The DASS test is a simple, confidential tool to help identify early signs of stress, anxiety, or low mood — empowering you and your team to take steps before challenges grow.
This Mental Health Awareness Week, let’s take time to connect and top up together. Consider incorporating the Five Ways to Wellbeing into your workplace:
- Me aro tonu / Take Notice — pause and reflect.
- Tukua / Give — show kindness to yourself and others.
- Me kori tonu / Be Active — keep your body and mind moving.
- Me whakawhanaunga / Connect — strengthen your relationships.
- Me ako tonu / Keep Learning — keep growing and exploring.
Nāu te rourou, nāku te rourou, ka ora ai te iwi.
With your food basket and mine, the people will flourish.
If you’d like to include DASS testing with your upcoming Occupational Health Checks, please let our team know when booking. Together, we can look after wellbeing — inside and out.
