Description

This course provides participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to safely prepare, sling, and control regular loads during lifting operations. It focuses on ensuring the safety of personnel involved in lifting activities and maintaining safe, controlled lifting environments in accordance with New Zealand health and safety requirements.

Hazards and risk management in lifting operations are covered, along with the selection, inspection, and correct use of lifting gear. Participants will also develop an understanding of Working Load Limit (WLL) requirements, safe slinging methods, and load control techniques used in real workplace environments.

Our course combines theory and practical training in a hands-on environment, allowing participants to build confidence using lifting equipment and applying safe slinging practices. Training can be delivered at our purpose-built facility or customised and delivered onsite at your workplace.

Participants finish the course being able to:

Identify hazards associated with lifting operations and apply appropriate control measures.
Demonstrate knowledge of safe slinging practices for regular loads.
Select appropriate lifting gear for specific loads and lifting tasks.
Inspect lifting equipment and slings for defects and serviceability.
Interpret Working Load Limit (WLL) tables and capacity charts.
Apply correct sling angles and lifting configurations.
Use tag lines and load control methods to safely manage suspended loads.
Recognise and manage hazards associated with swinging or spinning loads.
Demonstrate basic knowledge of rope knots used for load control.
Understand and respond to standard crane communication and stop signals.
